I got an email from a guy who said the MR is Marlin Remington/and the 2 most likely signifies the year and the 2nd number most likely signifies the month...or vice versa...of manufacture. I got the rifle in Sept. 2012 so the 2 probably means 2012. The whole sequence may show what number in the lot mine was built.

It was a good thing they haden't been fired in a while and that I was smart enough to (initially) read up on the Camp 9 and replace the buffers before trying.This date code is different than the one already listed, as Marlin rimfire rifles (other than the model 39 series) did not have a serial numbers until required to by Law after 1968.
